1.2. Task 2 Unit 10 grade 7
Read the text below and check your ideas. (Read the text below and check your ideas.)
Translated:
Dear guests,
Today I want to talk to you about renewable and non-renewable energy.
Fossil energies are non-renewable energy sources. Fossil energy includes oil, coal and natural gas. Oil, coal, and natural gas can be used to generate energy, generate electricity, or operate large machinery. Unfortunately, fossil energy is harmful to the environment. Vietnam is still dependent on these non-renewable energy sources, however hydroelectricity is being used more and more.
Hydroelectricity and nuclear can generate a lot of energy. Hydro and nuclear are renewable and abundant. However, hydropower has limitations because dams cannot be built in some areas. Nuclear power can provide enough electricity for the world’s needs, but it is dangerous.
The sun and wind are other alternative energy sources. Wind rotates wind turbines to generate electricity. One can convert solar energy into electricity. Solar energy can be used to heat or cool homes, although there are some disadvantages these alternative energy sources can provide a lot of safe and clean electricity. They will be increasingly valued in Vietnam in the future.

(What kind of energy is used the most in Vietnam?)
5. What does the professor think Vietnam will use more in the future?
(What do you think Vietnam will use more of in the future?)
Guide to answer
1. Two. They are renewable and non-renewable.
(Two. It’s regenerative and cannot be recovered.)
2. Hydro power is limited because damage can’t be built in certain areas. Nuclear power is dangerous.
(Hydroelectricity is limited because dams cannot be built in some areas. Nuclear power is dangerous.)
3. Because they are natural sources of energy and we use them instead of non-renewable sources.
(Because wind and sun are natural sources of energy and we use instead of non-renewable energy.)
4. We use non-renewable sources of energy the most but we are increasingly using hydro power.
(We use non-renewable energy the most, but we are using hydroelectricity more and more.)
5. He thinks Vietnam will use the wind and the sun as alternative sources of energy in the future.
(He thinks Vietnam will use wind and solar as alternative energy sources in the future.)
2. Speaking
2.1. Task 4 Unit 10 grade 7
Work in pairs. Ask and answer questions about the advantages and disadvantages of each type of energy sources. (Work in pairs. Ask and answer questions about the advantages and disadvantages of each type of energy.)
Translated:
A: What kind of energy is petroleum?
B: Petroleum is a non-renewable energy source, because it cannot be easily replaced.
A: What are the advantages and disadvantages of petroleum?
B: People use petroleum to power machines, but petroleum also pollutes the environment.
2.2. Task 5 Unit 10 grade 7
Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of each type of energy sources. (Talk about advantages and disadvantages of each type of energy)
Example
Hydro power is a renewable source of energy because it comes from water. It is cheap and plentiful. Unfortunately, damage can only be built in certain areas.
Translated:
Hydroelectricity is a renewable energy source because hydroelectricity comes from water. Hydroelectricity is cheap and abundant. Unfortunately, one can only build dams in a few areas.
Guide to answer
Solar energy is a renewable source of energy. It is also safe, abundant and available but the expense to install solar panels is high, so it is only popular in developed countries now. however, in the future, it will be used worldwide.
Translated:
Solar energy is a renewable energy source. Solar energy is also safe, abundant and readily available. However, the cost to install solar panels is quite high, so solar cells are only popular in developed countries. However, in the future, solar cells will be widely used.
3. Practice
Read the text
Hello students. Today I’d like to tell you some information about types and sources of energy. Energy is classified into two main groups: renewable and non-renewable.
The energy generated from natural sources such as the sun, wind, rain, and tides is called renewable energy. They are plentiful and can be generated again and again. They also have low carbon emissions so they are considered green and environment-friendly. Moreover, using renewable energy can reduce your electricity bills. Unfortunately, solar energy can be only used during the daytime but not during night or the rainy season. Geothermal energy can also bring toxic chemicals underneath the earth’s surface to the top and can create environmental changes.
Non-renewable energy is the energy taken from other sources that are available on earth. They are limited and will run out in the future. They can’t be re-generated in a short time. Fossil fuels – natural gas, oil and coal – are examples of them. They are cheap and easy to use. However, when burnt, they release toxic gases in the air so they cause serious environmental changes such as global warming. And the important thing is that non-renewable sources will expire someday.
Match the words/ phrases with their respective meanings.
Decide if the following statements are True or False or Not Given according to the text.
Question 1: This text may be written by a teacher.
A. True B. False C. Not Given
Question 2: There is a large amount of non-renewable energy.
A. True B. False C. Not Given
Question 3: The sun is one of the sources of energy which is friendly with the environment.
A. True B. False C. Not Given
Question 4: Non-renewable energy can be generated in a short time.
A. True B. False C. Not Given
Question 5: Non-renewable energy will run out in 150 years.
A. True B. False C. Not Given
4. Conclusion
At the end of the lesson, students need to do enough exercises, practice reading about renewable and non-renewable energy, practice talking about the advantages and disadvantages of different types of energy, and memorize the words mentioned. in the post:
